What was it about?

The village of Čistá u Litomyšle treats its wastewater in a rather unusual way – every household has its own domestic wastewater treatment unit. There are 219 units in the village in total.

Sludge handling BEFORE

The domestic treatment units have been running for a second year now, but sludge processing was until recently outsourced to an external company using mobile sludge technology. This arrangement proved unsatisfactory, so the village council started looking for an alternative.

The dewatering trial

Testing took place in the first half of 2024 at one of the larger domestic units (20 PE). The aim was to demonstrate the equipment in operation, answer the council members' questions and discuss possible solutions directly on site.

Economic assessment

After two months of full operation it became clear that the running costs of their own sludge press amount to roughly 35 % of the original expenditure.
